Peng Liyuan Is Best-Dressed First Lady, Vanity Fair Says

Vanity Fair is calling it now, friends: Peng Liyuan is the next Michelle Obama.

Well, sort of. While Vanity Fair left America’s FLOTUS off their annual International Best-Dressed List this year, they highlighted China’s first lady instead — and with good reason.

Peng favors smart suits, sensible handbags and anything by Guangzhou-based label Exception. Her high-profile husband and her job as a UN World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador take her to exotic locales, and a trip to Russia this past spring (after which she started a “Duchess effect”-esque frenzy) solidified her status as a style icon.

“She’s known to be elegant and fashionable, but she’s also very low-key and doesn’t seem arrogant in the way that you usually associate with the wives of top leaders,” real estate agent Chen Li told the AP in March. Perhaps that elegance is what put Peng on Vanity Fair’s renowned round-up over better-known fashionable first ladies likeValerie Trierweiler and Michelle Obama.
